Heart is an extremely vital organ of our body. It is the organ that plays a major role in all functioning of the body. All our organs, including the brain require blood to operate. This blood is circulated and provided to all the organs by the heart. Most people usually take care about not contracting any heart diseases. With age, the capacity of the heart to work goes on decreasing, but here age is a natural factor and simply cannot be avoided. Some day or the other, every one must go through it. How you handle it matters. But nowadays, surveys have shown that cardio- vascular diseases have increased among the younger age group too. First thing, we need to understand is how the heart is related to weight gain and how the heart works. Heart is a pumping organ and supplies blood to every nook and corner of the body. As one keeps gaining weight, the thickness of the heart wall also increases. Due to this, the blood vessels are restricted from flowing properly. As a result, the blood puts more pressure on to allow way for proper blood flow. As more and more fat gets deposited on the heart wall, the ability of the heart to pump blood depreciates and at one point of time, this may pose a serious threat to your life and prove fatal.

Once a person falls prey to a heart ailment, it is almost impossible to get out of it. Diseases like arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis, and high blood pressure are very common for an obese patient. A combination of obesity and heart ailments is the last thing any one would want. When obesity becomes a threat to life, weight loss surgery is the most convenient and also a good option there is. It becomes a life savior to an obesity patient. Weight loss surgeries are commonly summed up under bariatric surgery. There are two types of bariatric surgeries, based on two different procedures. One is called the

gastric bypass surgery

, which is cutting the stomach in two and then rearranging the small intestine to connect one part of the stomach to it. The other is called adjustable gastric banding. In this procedure, the stomach is not cut, but is divided into two in a reversible way by placing an adjustable gastric band around the upper part of the stomach. Since it is a reversible procedure, most people prefer it over gastric bypass although the weight loss achieved in gastric bypass is much more and faster than in gastric banding.
